The Iron Bridge is a landmark in Shropshire but also a particular historic structure. The industrial revolution began with monumental structures, made in iron yet show their original conceptual designs which would have been crafted in wood. This piece tries to capture the industrial aspect of this monumental structure.
This large oil painting 126 x 96 is both painterly with thick slabs of paint applications in the foreground to create the rocky wall and painterly brush marks to capture the iron forms of the red bridge. .
The painting studies the hard and soft textures of both man made and organic forms. This deep canvas object is framed with a solid wood shadow box frame highlighting the painting object as both an illusionary space and as a large human scale form on the wall.
